What is a mental illness? Easily explained, it 's an illness of the brain or a disorder if you will. Schizophrenia is one of the most well known mental illnesses there is. Demonic possession is believed to occur when something twists in one 's mind and heart. They become vulnerable and that is what causes evil to enter. Demonic possession is also most common in mentally disabled people because they are believed to be weak minded. This could cause some conflict because of the belief of the Antichrist. He or she is believed to be a very smart person, and that he would be possessed by Satan himself. Some believe that one can only be mentally disabled if they are without Christ. Then why are some of the most influential people in the Christian religion mentally disabled? Dr. Waterhouse said ¨mental illness is God 's chastisement¨. Many people in the Bible explain this even more. But there are some spiritual questions that many people ask. Some are ¨Why would God allow this?¨, ¨Why me?¨, ¨Where are these voices coming from?¨, ¨Is something wrong with me and my faith?¨, and ¨What good will come from this suffering?¨. Along with questions, there are problems that people face when dealing with this problem. They deal with a lot of guilt, fear, anger and mostly depression. Dr. Steven Waterhouse says ¨Churches fail to respond to mental illnesses. God permits suffering¨. Which is very true according to your belief. There are many instances of mental illnesses in the Bible such as David, Sam, Mark, Paul, and even Jesus himself. In the book of David, chapter four, Nebuchadnezzar says that ¨God uses mental illness as chastisement¨. Many people are also taught of the Anti-Christ and that he would be possessed by Satan himself. That would be the most evil demonic possession of all time. Some say that demonic possessions in the Bible were undiagnosed mental illnesses. If that doesn 't relate them, nothing does. After all, Jesus himself recognized the presence of demons and their abilities to possess others. In Geneva 's Outpatient Public Psychiatric Facility in Switzerland there was a study conducted with one hundred and three patients. Doctors were investigating spiritual and religious beliefs with people who have been diagnosed with Schizophrenia. The study 's data showed that thirty two percent of the patients were ¨nonadherent¨ to medication by mouth. Nonadherent meaning the medication did not take well with those patients. Five percent of these people were of the Christian religion, two percent were Jewish, three percent were Muslim, four percent Buddhists, fourteen percent had various religious beliefs and nineteen percent were non-religious. Fifty-seven
