My friends and I had agreed to meet in front of the CVS on Santa Monica Blvd to go to the West hollywood Halloween carnival together. Naturally I ended up being the first person there as it was just an 8 minute drive from my house. Knowing my friends would be late,I stayed put in obvious sight, waiting for their arrival. It had been maybe 5 more minutes when a fairly normal looking middle-aged man approached me and complimented my dress. I smiled and thanked him expecting for him to move on and proceed with his own Halloween plans. He instead began starting up a conversation as if I had known him for years. As someone who loves to socialize and meet new people I had no problem talking to him as if we were practically best friends. However, …show more content…
On the other hand, I felt that if I showed signs of aggression that this stranger might be inclined to violence. “How do I let him down easily?” was another thought as someone who has such a difficult time with confrontation that it prohibits me from doing anything that will make someone not like me. “I like girls!” I said honestly, disregarding all the rational thoughts I had in order to please this stranger in front of me, whom I owed nothing. “I can change that” he said. “If you don't stop going with women, you’re going straight to hell”. Terrified, all I could say was “Okay” before trying desperately to look around for any signs of my friends. This stranger then began telling me about his wife committing suicide because she was a lesbian. At that point I was so scared that I began thanking him and walking away as if he had just sold me a box of cookies. I walked to the side of the sidewalk with many event security guards in hopes that they would protect me if this man didn't stop. To my absolute horror, this awful person was following me, telling me he could change me if I just let him put his dick in me. This man proceeded to follow and tried to touch

I chose to conduct my observation at Lake Eola Park which is located in the heart of Downtown Orlando FL. The sidewalk that circles the lake makes it easy for people who visit the park to run, walk, relax or picnic. Lake Eola park offers many activities to park visitors and local residents which include: renting swan-shaped paddle boats and duck feeding just to name a few. Swan watching is always a big hit as well as viewing other types of wildlife inhabiting Lake Eola Park. Additionally, the park comes fully equipped with the Walt Disney Amphitheater, which is great for national and local acts to perform.…

This past month, I’ve put in quite a few hours at my job, a Christian bookstore and (to anyone who has been there, this won’t come as any kind of shock) our usual clientele is (to put it bluntly) old. And I’m okay with that. Old(er) people don’t normally scare me (unless they’re super cranky and/or insane). All that being said, it’s usually a rare occurrence when we end up with younger people in the store.…

In our society, there are unwritten social norms that people tend to follow. These social norms are sort a like guideline rules on what is appropriate and what is not appropriate and also how someone’s behavior is like in different types of situations. For an example, it is an acceptable norm to leave a tip of at least fifteen percent when you’re done eating at a restaurant. However, if you choose to not leave a tip that would be considered a violation of the norm but it will not earn you a spot in the jail cell.…

I recently went to an AA meeting at the Lamb Center in Fairfax, Virginia. It is a small center and by approaching the center I could tell that the meeting would be held in a smaller circle than what my classmates told me from their experiences. Even though I am a very relaxed person, when it comes to meeting total strangers I had my reservation on what to expect. We were instructed to be sitting in the back and basically just observe; yet I could see that “hiding” in the back at this place was an impossible task. After I parked my car and approached the door and elderly gentlemen approached me and asked if I was here for the meeting.…

The interaction that I observed took place at a car dealership around ten o’clock in the morning on a weekday. I was there waiting for my car to be serviced, along with other individuals in the waiting area. The atmosphere of the environment was like most waiting rooms, people looking down at their phones and watching the television to make the time pass. The ‘Price is Right’ was on a very loud volume setting. This actually made people talk louder than they usual would, making the observation easy to distinguish because the individuals had to either yell or repeat themselves to get their communication across.…

As I was violating this social norm, I felt strange and out of place. I had a lot of awkward encounters that day and i think it was because i normally don't stop and start talking to strangers or greet them by using hand gestures. Normally if someone smiles or says hi, i smile back or say or hi and then we both go our separate ways. With this experiment, I would have to stop and greet them in an unusual and personal way.…

Children are waiting for this day, they lie in wait month by month and plot what costumes they will wear on this day; they figure out who amongst their friends and family will gather the most candy; this day is called Halloween. Halloween is the one day in the whole year where people and children alike dress up in costumes and go door to door in order to accumulate candy, however, one would not think that Halloween was not always a child-friendly holiday but had a shadowy and foggy past. Halloween then and Halloween now are completely two different people. Halloween in the past was first a day that marked a new season, but soon became a time where terror resides in the hearts of the Celts. Halloween today, has taken a dark turn where sadists and commercialization have sucked the fun and the historical truth out of Halloween.…
