Halloween Haunt Research Paper

Full disclosure, the first time Great America opened Halloween Haunt I worked there and it was scary; probably because it was new. This year Times videographer, Hugo Legend and I attended Great America’s Haunt for media day. The free tickets, dinner and exclusive VR experience were a nice gesture but our initial haunt experience was underwhelming. Granted we opted out of visiting the mazes, which I know from having gone through them in the past, are creative and if you’re into that sort of thing they can be fun. My companion however wasn’t interested so I had no reservations when we skipped it since I was not going to go in there alone. We were first in line to experience the new attraction Fear VR 5150 for free. Even though the attraction

To many, the end of October is a time of corn mazes, costume parties, and haunted houses. Many cultures celebrate harvest festivals during October, though none are as well-known as Halloween. Because Halloween is primarily descended from the Celtic festival of Samhain, when some think of Halloween, they think of bats and cats and witches. However, although Halloween as it is currently know is a wholly American creation with regional rituals handed down by generations, it did not become a “full-blown American holiday” until the turn of the century (Bannatyne). Because of the contemporary nature of Halloween, without Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Sylvia Plath’s “Lady Lazarus”, and George A. Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead, the holiday as we…

Imagine being in the depth of space fighting aliens or eating sushi in Tokyo. Picture how the old west would be or how Neverland is during the winter. If I had the chance to go anywhere, real or imagined, now or anywhere in time, I would consider going to a couple different places like: a tropical forest, the future, a different world, the past, a different universe. But if I could only choose one place, I would like to go to a place where anything can happen, where all your dreams come true, a place called Horrorland.…

In the United States, innovative areas of the city have become popular. The idea is that cities can turn distressed communities into new areas of innovation, where innovative institutions, incubators, accelerators, and other relevant institutions are established, where businesses and communities can collaborate and grow. However, if you pass these areas after 6pm, you will find it is like a "ghost town" because there are few places to eat, not to mention watching movies or shopping. In addition, since many employees live in the old industrial areas of the city, it is difficult for them to walk to work or to take public transport, making them…

“Could art and commerce coexist in harmony?” Artists Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson had a vision that art and commerce can exist in harmony together in downtown Louisville, among other cities in the United States. I experienced the contemporary 24-hour art museum and hotel combination these two artist envisioned one night with a group entertaining and spontaneous friends. Our night started out with hand-dipped ice cream on the river walk, on the Indiana side of the Ohio River and ended up across the bridge among the tall buildings, street lights, and sketchy alley ways. While we were walking to the entrance, all bundled up, I was skeptical.…

Business Plan We are the Underground: a haunted house attraction that is located in a cavern. Our goal is to create a truly frightening experience in a very untraditional way by focusing more on the actors and natural setting rather than large effects and displays. We operate seasonal, but keep our lobby/bar open all year. The attraction will consist of a self guided tour of the cave were the participants will explore, figure out what they must do through puzzles, and reading. During their experience, the customer will encounter our actors, who will personally scare them through stalking, jumpscares, chases, ex.…
