“This is the inaugural event,” said Allison Gerlach, the producer of the Chicago Cultural Mile, where the event will be held. “We have been planning it for over a year now.”
All of the preparation has resulted in stunning programming, from a Chicago Opera Theatre performance to a workshop by the Reciclarte Studio on decorating sugar skulls to hula hooping classes led by fire spinners. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., family-friendly activities will be held along South Michigan Avenue, according to officials.

Marie Gouwens, a seamstress and teacher at Trixy Xchange, will be one of the hundreds of artists inviting people of all ages to learn more about their creative field.
“I'm doing a workshop of making a stuffed animal keychain class that is good for all ages,” Gouwens said. “So adults like it and kids can make them. I’m preparing to be swamped.”
She has every right to be. Officials are expecting a turnout of 30,000 to 100,000 people.
“We found that this event was so well received,” said producer Gerlach. “We've had everyone from the Blackhawks to the Cubs and all different institutions from all over the city get a hold of us to say they wanted to be involved -- because Halloween is apparently everyone's favorite holiday!”
Though The Halloween Gathering is a first-year event, support has been offered from some of Chicago’s most renowned establishments, including Columbia College Chicago, according to officials.
Liam Manglano, the marketing lead for Columbia College’s portion of the event, said that students have been attending costume workshops on campus to decorate jumpsuits, which will be worn during the parade. The procession begins at 6
