Due to rules of the law system, judges are given the power to be able to give a directed verdict. This is when a judge feels that there is no need for a jury to give a verdict, and if this verdict is given by the judge it is “not guilty.” Even though part of a judges power is to do that, in this film it is shown as a flaw. In the film the judge gives a directed verdict, even though the defendant is actually guilty of the crime of attacking the prostitute. Plea bargains is an agreement between the defense and the prosecution, which the defense pleads guilty in return for some concession from the prosecutor. This is shown as a flaw in the law system, in which many times the plea of guilt is actually false, and the defendant is actually innocent. This happened with the man that was accused of murder pleaded guilty so he would not be given the death penalty, even though he was actually innocent. This allowed for the real perp to get away with the crime since another person had done the crime.
