Hali Bishop: My Love Of Learning And Education

Improved Essays
Hi, my name is Hali Bishop and my love for learning and education has always been important since I was a little girl. The value of education is something that I have understood since a very young age. Neither of my parents had an opportunity to attend college, and both faced many struggles in their own personal and professional lives because of this. My parents made a commitment early in their life to do everything within their power to instill in their children a love of learning and an understanding of the importance of hard work and dedication so that one day their children could be as successful as they want to be and more. Growing up I’ve had a lot of obstacles come my way, but that seems to make me stronger as a human being. I enjoy …show more content…
My parents are hardworking people who sometimes struggle with money and what we might do for the next bill that comes in the mail, but manage to get through each paycheck so that we can have a better future and not be a poverty statistic. I currently have a sibling who attends college which my parents also help with school tuition/expenses and my younger brother attends Catholic School. I know my parents cannot afford to help me with much of my college and we do not qualify for any financial aid. But I feel that if I work hard, get good grades and stay focused, I will find a way to make my dream a reality. The assistance this scholarship offers would be invaluable in supporting my goal as I work toward making a difference in a child in need. I look forward to attending college to gain the knowledge and skills I will need to pursue my dream. My career plans are to attend college and complete a BA as a Social Worker. My passion is in helping others, kids…kids who don’t have a voice. Reading about this material has instilled in me a respect for Social Work and a burning desire to be an advocate for these children in need. A degree in Social Work will provide me the tools I will need to meet the challenges I will face, and to be the strong advocate I would like to

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

Achieving the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship would benefit my family tremendously since I am planning to go to the University of St. Thomas in Houston which is a private 4-year university meaning it will costly compare to public postsecondary institutions. Additionally, the scholarship provides a 5,000 dollar four-year renewable scholarship and it will be a great financial assistance towards my tuition to strive for Bachelor’s degree. I need this scholarship to help me fund for my attendance to college.
