The History and background of Haiti holds an important significance to the Haitian Culture.

I. Learning about Haiti’s History and background. A. According to the article, Haiti: Junior World mark Encyclopedia of the Nations, 2012, it explains the discovery Christopher Columbus made of the island Haiti –which was then Hispaniola settled in an area known today as Cap-Haïtien. At the time a group of Indians were living there but, were soon wiped out by the Spanish settlers. After 1517, Africans were turned as laborers which is why a majority of the people who live in Haiti are black. B. After a bloody battle it gained its independence January 1, 1804. Haiti gained a population of 9,996,731 and the official language is French and Creole.
(Transition: ) Long battles were fought for freedom and independence and indeed they were worth it but, understanding the culture can be fun and adventurous.
