Document what your assessment data told you about your student today by recording specific examples of your student’s strengths and challenges. What can the student do independently? With your support? What challenges occurred? Today my learner successfully met the lesson objectives. She began by reading a story called Hairy, Scary, Ordinary by Brian P. Cleary. Last semester, I worked with a student that struggled with writing and reading where as my student this semester does those two things with ease. As mentioned in the previous question, Jackie made a comment that was disrespectful. Fletcher and Portalupi (2011) talk about about share sessions when it comes to a writers workshop. They discuss how “the tone should be positive and celebratory. But it must be handled carefully, especially at the beginning, because you are setting a tone for the workshop” (p. 41). Luckily, the comment the student made did not affect the other student’s decision to share. But the comment was made and it showed me that when running a student share session, regardless of it is literacy or another subject area, I need to be aware of what students say and make sure to address any issues with the student privately to make sure it does not happen again. Especially for these young writers, hearing something negative about themselves right before they share could easily leave a negative impact on their feelings towards writing even if the comment was not about their writing

The video that I chose to observe for my self-study was a video of myself teaching the students about interruptions in the classroom. My objective in this lesson was to teach the students how to be respectful listeners and how to use their self-control to stop them from interrupting others. To help in guiding my self-study, I will be using a rubric from the Framework for Teaching (Danielson Group), which consists of four different domains; planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibilities.
