The average hourly wage starts at $11.95. “The lowest 10 percent earned less than $8.62, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $22.79.” (“Bureau of labor statistics”). Hairdressers may also receive tips from their customers. If I’m a hairdresser and I’m employed by a large salon and I have access to group medical benefits, my employer's plan might be my best choice, because employers usually pay part of the premiums. “The majority of hairdressers -- who are self-employed, small business owners or are part-time employees and contract workers -- can turn to the federal government's health insurance marketplace to seek group medical benefits” (“Bureau of labor statistics”). This job can provide a living wage, but it is still one of the lowest paying jobs according to Campus Explorer. The location in where you work also has a very big impact on your salary, the highest paid hairdressers work in the metropolitan areas. She gave me tips, information I didn’t know, and was a truthful unbiased subject. Mackenzie was a young but successful hairstylist that has both worked for an employer and has also rented her own booth. She makes her own hours, cleans up after herself, makes her own prices, buys her own products, and so on. I did not know a “booth rental hairstylist” was even a job opportunity until I interviewed Mackenzie. The information I gained from Mackenzie helped me decide if I wanted to pursue this career and if I do I have information on what position and where I would start my career. I would start off as an employee for a salon and then as I got more popular and broadened my skills, I would start my own company or excel and explore in a booth rental. I really enjoy doing hair, meeting new people, and learning new things, but I don’t think this is a career I want to pursue, because of the average salary, it is far too low for me to be able to excel in the job. But this being said, if I did decide to pursue this career I would want to study abroad or travel with a magazine company. This would give be a better chance of being able to make more money and broaden my skill level and
