Use of Chemical Hair Dyes and Health Problems
According to J.D. Heyes, those who use hair dyes more than nine times a year have a 60 percent greater risk of contracting cancer (Heyes 1). It is important to know what kind of chemicals are in the hair dye. People do not read what the hair dye contains in it, if dying hair often it can lead to cause cancer on scalp, skin, and hair loss. J. D. Heyes, a scientist, also says that both home hair coloring kits, and dyes used at more expensive hair salons has a growing potential health risk (Heyes 1). Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from the scalp. It is true that men are more likely to lose their hair than women, mostly due to male pattern baldness (more on that later). Do to the hair loss the hair can start to come out thin and would start to look like if it is a little bite of hair. Researchers continue to study the cancer- causing potential of hair dye ingredients, and FDA continues to keep abreast of such findings (Meadows 4). Today with so many types of hair dyes that can give scalp damage do to what the dye is, they now use bleach and blend it with many types of color. Most of the hair dye used today could give even worse problems than how it was used before. Hair dyes used today could not just end up giving scalp damage or hair loss first but could just end up giving cancer first. There could be more chemicals in a hair dye that are used today. The importance of this is for people to know about hair dyes and that not everything in the hair dye is healthy for the hair or scalp. Coloring the hair often could damage the hair but while doing it once a while it would not affect it as who the ones that do it all the time. There is a risk of getting to the point where cancer happens before that happens there is a chance that it damage the scalp and also by what it does to it. Also some studies have not found out what is really giving all this problems to the hair or damaging the scalp. It is not known yet whether some of the chemicals still used in hair dyes can cause cancer. Mostly people hair dye their hair so it would look fabulous, but it can also damage the scalp and give hair loss or even cause it to get cancer.
