There is no such thing as just a plain brown. If someone wanted a brown that was not too warm or too cool they would go for a neutral option. The haircolor would have the number of the level followed by the letter N. This indicates that the brown is a neutral shade. For example if the hair color was a level four N. Some hair color lines can go up to a level twelve. Level six being a dark blonde to a level ten or twelve being the lightest blonde. Unless a person is naturally blonde, they can not go blonde without bleaching their hair first. Bleach hair will strip all the melanin out of the client’s hair to bring to a high level. If a brunette is going blonde, they may experience a lot of unwanted warm tones after bleaching (milday). From that point, the stylist can use hair color as a toner to get rid of the unwanted tone, and to get the correct shade of blonde. Warm blonde hair tends to have a yellow, orange bronze, or golden tone to it. Warm blonde hair can tend to look brassy due to all the warm tones in it. Cool blonde is usually what people prefer when they go blonde. In 2015 extremely cool toned blonde, borderline grey has become a huge trend (Empire.) Reclaiming Power: The Effect of White Supremacy on Coloured/Black Womens' Hair Using the following quote by Bell Hooks, "In those days, this process of straightening black women’s hair with a hot comb (invented by Madame C. J. Walker) was not connected in my mind with the effort to look white, to live out standards of beauty set by white supremacy. It was connected solely with rites of initiation into womanhood.
