The message of Haggai was one to encourage the “reconstruction of the temple of God” (Hill&Walton, 2009, p.680) and also to rebuild their faith and worship. First, however, Haggai had to address the selfishness of the people; he “rebukes the community...for their preoccupation with personal comforts” (p.681).
