Hagfish are found along the western edge of North America from Nootka Bay, Canada to Baja California, Mexico. They are found mainly in regions with the temperature range between 4.528 - 8.705 degrees Celsius. Hagfish are primarily located in burrows on the Pacific Ocean’s seafloor in order to feed on the small invertebrate that live on the seafloor. Hagfish also feed on dead or dying fish. Although hagfish are preyed upon by some marine mammals or other large invertebrates, most common aquatic predators avoid hagfish because of their slime.
