Hae Min Lee's Murder Case

Superior Essays
Hae Min Lee was killed on January 13th 1999. Jay Wild played a big part in Hae Min Lee’s homicide case. In fact, he helped bury her dead body. How do we know Jay didn’t kill Hae? He had Adnan Syed’s (the accused murder) phone and car. For all we know, Jay could’ve committed the crime. But, he was proven innocent in court. What was Jay doing the day Hae Min Lee went missing? Jay was very connected with Adnan, Hae, and Woodlawn High School. Woodlawn High School was where Hae and Adnan went at the time and where Jay had recently graduated from. Jay knew Adnan and Hae because he was dating a girl named Stephanie. Stephanie was good friends with Adnan Syed. Rabia Chaundry, an immigrant lawyer who knows Adnan personally, said, “Who was Jay? Jay was a former …show more content…
The State had thought that the call had been made around 2:36 P.M. after Adnan killed Hae. However, Jay insists and confirms multiple times that the “come and get me call” was in fact at 3:40 P.M. Chaundry explains, “This is actually the one point that Jenn and Jay firmly agree on. Problem is that they both agree Jay left Jenn’s house at a time that completely invalidates the State’s timeline. Both Jenn and Jay say over and over again, he left the house at 3:30, 3:40, and Jenn says as late as 4:15, even. But the State’s theory of the case is that Hae was dead by 2:35, and the “come and get me call” was made at 2:36 p.m. If Jay is saying that Adnan told him to expect a call at 3:30 and that Adnan didn’t actually call until 3:40, there’s no way the State’s timeline can work. It just can’t; it’s done.” The two finally agreed on something, but, this doesn’t match up with the State’s timeline. Therefore, the State’s timeline is back to square one. I believe Jay is being honest at this point because Jenn agrees with him and this is the one of the only things in his stories that he doesn 't

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…
