Hae Lee Analysis

The story of Hae Lee’s death is filled with so many lies, fibs, and plot holes. I think all of those things make this podcast very intriguing and it hooks you in. Sarah Koenig had put so much energy into this podcast just for her to end up being inconclusive. Looking at all of the evidence can help you come up with your own opinion. After examining the evidence and listening to the podcast, I have come to believe that Adnan is guilty, because he seemed unaffected by the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. He tries to cut all ties with Jay, and acts like they were acquaintances, so Jay’s story would sound more made up. Adnan says he can’t remember anything from that day, yet everyone else does. I don’t believe that Adnan says that he didn’t know Jay very well. It doesn’t make any sense that he would borrow his car and phone to someone he barely knows, even if they on occasion smoked together. Also, Jay used to give Adnan rides to track practice. They seem a tad close than just acquaintances. It seems like Adnan is trying to distance himself from Jay. If someone had framed you from murder, I'm pretty sure that thing would be a little more personal. …show more content…
But, everyone except Adnan had tried to make contact with her. That seems a little fishy. Apparently, he got all the news from his friends at school, but you would think that he would try to remember or even note the events that occurred that day. He may have only been a teenager, but he should’ve had the common sense to think about these things. Hae was found four weeks after her disappearance. It could’ve been difficult but not too hard to recall anything from that day. If I was being accused of doing such a thing, my brain would go awol reviewing the events of that day. I’m pretty sure his friends and family would be able to help him remember. He could’ve said anything, except that he couldn’t remember anything about that day to help his

However, his story has many parts where it brings us to question him, and what motives he truly had to criminate Adnan. When looking at his testimony, we can see that there are clear times when he says “Adnan then said….” or “Adnan told me…” these are not acceptable in court and something that he lawyer would have brought out. We also hear his manager at Best Buy, saying that he was scared after the murder, saying that someone was following him, talking about the white van that he saw. This doesn’t make sense, because Jay told us that Adnan did this alone, and not with a group.…

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

To understand the nature of Lee, you have to take a step back and understand who Lee was before the Marvel phenomenon: a dispirited, middle-aged company stooge working in a dying industry, with no reason to believe anything could change. He was born Stanley Martin Lieber in Manhattan’s Upper West Side on December 28, 1922, the first child of middle-class Jewish parents. Stanley’s father, Jack, had been a dressmaker but suffered from chronic unemployment during the Depression. “Seeing the demoralizing effect that his unemployment had on his spirit, making him feel that he just wasn’t needed, gave me a feeling I’ve never been able to shake,” Lee wrote in his first memoir, Excelsior!, published in 2002.…

It is easy to believe that conscience is the most powerful thing that encourages people to behave. In fact, some people live their whole lives without ever doubting misconducts due to money or private profit. However, I see things differently. If you ask me, I would say conscience is not a strong method to control people. We do not need to look further than Woong-chul Lee, the prime minister of Republic of Korea, and se moja to acknowledge that money, fame , and power are more powerful motivator than conscience.…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…
