Hae John Lee's Dying Case Study

In January 13th 1999, an investigation of Hae Min Lee’s death brought such an intriguing case. The 18 year-old student’s body was found strangled and buried in Leakin Park, Baltimore. Sarah, who dedicated years of researching and trying to find a sure answer, never came up with a final conclusion, although there are many irrefutable evidences whether Adnan is guilty or not. However, Adnan Syed is not guilty.

One big evidence that proves Adnan’s innocence is the phone booth that was never there. According to Jay’s statement, Adnan placed a call to pick him up from where he was with Hae’s car and body. Later on, Jay changed his story and said that Adnan called him at Best Buy using a payphone. In episode 5 of the serial podcast, Adnan issued a challenge to Sarah, “to test the state’s timeline of the murder by driving from Woodlawn High School to Best Buy in 21 minutes. It can’t be done he said”. Sarah and a producer helped her to recreate the entire route Jay and Adnan took on the day of Hae’s murder. In the time that the courts stated, it’s impossible to make it from his school to Best Buy (students cluttering in the hallway, busses, and traffic) and killing Hae, in 21 minutes. Sarah and the producer made it to Best Buy in 18 minutes leaving only 3 minutes for Adnan to strangle Hae and put her in the back of the trunk then calls Jay to pick him up. Moreover, Jay was interviewed four times by the police, and each time, his stories

No physical evidence that Jay or Adnan were in Leakin Park that night. The determined cause of death was strangulation. The coroner’s testimony didn’t indicate any evidence to suggest what was used, how it was used, or what manner in which it could have happened. So no known method of actually strangulation, just the aftermath. I believe Adnan has been framed because most of the evidence used against him does not make any

Trial Write-Up For the trial I was a lawyer for the Crown and did the cross-examination of Bobbie Bann and the closing statements. Our group’s goal was to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Bobbie Bann knew he was shooting Fallon King. We focused in on a few different areas, what possible motives Mr. Bann would have and the different holes in the story Bobbie Bann presented to the court. Looking first as the noise he woke up to, it was only the weathervane scratching against the roof, a noise he should’ve recognized as it happened often.…

His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

There was many evidences to show the kid was guilty, but juror # 6 was able to debunk every single evidence. I am positive the jurors made a mistake about making fictional reasons to every clue they receive. I believe this kid is guilty for killing his dad and there’s many evidences to prove that. Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…
