Hades When loved ones died where did they go? Who watched over them? The Greek god Hades was the answer. Hades expressed his importance and power in Greek mythology through the ways he controlled his large realm of the Underworld. Hades’ personality guided his actions. His relations were also relevant to Greek mythology. The Titan War and Olympic Revolution caused Hades to adapt in a major way. The Underworld affected Hades in a large way. Hades influenced Greek mythology. Hades’ personality guided his actions. Although Hades was once kind and thoughtful, he changed into a stern and pitiless god. The parents of Hades were the Titan Cronus and the Titaness Rhea. Hades’s brothers were Zeus; the god of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods; Poseidon; the god of water and; Chiron; the wisest of all the Centaurs. The sisters of Hades were Demeter; the goddess of harvest; Hestia; the goddess of domestic life; and Hera; the goddess of marriage. Persephone, who was the daughter of Demeter, was kidnapped by Hades and taken to the Underworld. Persephone to be released by Hades, she had to make a deal that she would come back and spend four months with him every year. Because she loved the sunlight and flowers, these months were known as the season of winter. Macaria, Melinoe, and Zagreus were the children of Hades. When Hades was born, his father Cronus swallowed him and his brothers and sisters trap them in his stomach. By doing this, Cronus would have prevented them from overpowering the Titans. Hades’s mother, Rhea, was infuriated at this selfish act and in retaliation tricked him into swallowing a rock instead of Zeus. When Zeus was old enough to reason he deceived Cronus into regurgitating his other children. The great 10 years War of the Titans began shortly after that. The Titan War concluded with the results of an Olympian victory in the war. The Olympic Revolution and the great Titan War affected Hades.
The realm of the Underworld was controlled by Hades and was where Hades lived for most of his life. When people died their soul would have gone to the Underworld. Once in the Underworld these souls would be judged on what these people did during their lives. The evil souls would be sent far below Hades’s castle where they would be punished, but the good souls would be sent to the beautiful Elysian Fields.
