Hacking Social Networks Advancement in technology makes lives more and more comfortable in every aspect. The dawn of 21st century witnessed one of the most amazing inventions in the field of internet which is known as social networking. The main purpose of any social networking site is to help people communicate with the society in a convenient way. These pictures can be misused in as many ways as these people want it to. In the article, “Hacking Social Networks” Greiner states that, “There are village idiots and smart alecks, jerks and nice people, good guys and, alas, bad guys” (Greiner 185). As per his statement, anybody never know whom they are dealing with. Anyone can pretend to be a nice person and can misuse our trust. Even our friends and also the people we know personally can act bad and backstab us on social networks. Even people make fake accounts on these sites and pretend to be some other person and they do their crimes in the name of some innocent person. I have a friend who had been such a victim. Once she shared her pictures on her Facebook wall and a week after she saw that she got a friend request from an account with her name and picture. But at the same time, these sites are indirectly depleting our resources in the form of time wastage. Most of the students have made social networking sites as a part of their routine. Chatting and video calling is a very common among them. This habit has a great impact on their studies. “A 2007 Ipsos - Reid study found that at least one third of Canadian users over eighteen years of age spend five and a half hours per week accessing online social networks, which accounts for about an hour each day” (Renneboog, 2009). According to this study, it is crystal clear that Social sites are distracting youth’s time and interest from doing any other activities such as, playing outdoor games, reading books, sports and helping housework.
