Day 5: Smoking and alcohol and other bad habits that used to go with it, must be cut out…
Day 4, would have made no sense, without considering the absolute no no’s for day 5, when it comes to food and quitting smoking. From the same study (Duke University), by again Psychologist F. Joseph McLaren and colleagues, it turned out that 70% of the participants, claimed that alcohol, coffee and meat (red meat) made their cigarettes taste better. So, drink less caffeinated and alcoholic beverages, and eat less meat. This means that if you love to drink and indulge in spicy and savory meats most of the time, you should try to slow down this tendency. And milk, can be drank warm, cool, with sugar, honey, mixed with chocolate, enough to fill up your tummy for at least an hour, and keep you away from smoking. You can also replace your alcoholic beverages with tea (try to alternate by picking different varieties). And of course water. It’s time to train your nose to something new; so, buy yourself some scented candles, for this week. When you move on with the program for next week, add up some air freshener. By week 4, add up some incense or burning oils. You’ve probably noticed how we went to something light, like the scent of a burning candle, then progressing to air fresheners to finally introduce something more powerful (when it comes to spreading scents in a room) like oils and incense? This means that because these smells represent comfort in a healthy way, like the smell of cigarette used to, you will always seek for something similar, which is certainly not found in crowded and smoke infested pubs and night

The ancient Egyptians were concerned with the odours of everyday life and death. Dated to 1550 BCE, the Ebers papyrus gives us a wealth of knowledge on Egyptian medical preparations for ailments, perfumed anointing oils, and incense plants. As we move back through time, as early as the third millennium BCE, it becomes difficult to differentiate between the use of oils, scented oils, perfumes, and fragrances for spiritual or pharmacological purposes.…

I selected the Great American Smokeout press release because ACS is an organization that I support—in remembrance of a loved ones whom I’ve lost to the dreaded disease; to celebrate for those who’ve conquered the disease and to honor survivors like my mother. Furthermore, it's hard to do. Offering support to those who want to quit, even if it’s for a day, has the power to change lives.…
