Indeed, when asked why they did not complete school writing assignments or failed in English composition, many students always argue that writing takes much of their time which they would rather be utilizing differently. However, what I have discovered from the writing workshops is that writing can indeed be fun and interactive with minimal isolation if it is in the company of those with whom one shares common interests. It is much easier to talk about ideas and relate them to multiple events to form a large and detailed picture. In short, the writing workshops to me have been a haven for the nurturing of my creative thinking skills that I have found to be extremely helpful in improving my writing…

I think of writing as an opportunity for me to express my opinions, find out more about myself, and connect with others. To me, writing is more than just printing words onto paper; writing can inspire, move, and drive the actions and thoughts of individuals. The process behind writing varies from person to person and can be easy for some but difficult for others. For me, my writing process has been morphed and crafted into systematic procedures over the years, largely by California public school teachers. To this day, I struggle with not implementing the writing techniques and strategies that were taught to me in grade school at the university level.…

By allowing them to select the topic that they want to write about and having them work together, teachers are building up the students’ love of school. When children love school, parents can breathe easier knowing that their child is starting their schooling on a positive note. Another reason that by using these writing methods in my classroom will benefit parents is because sometimes children do not tell parents what happened at school or at this age all they see is worksheets and art projects that come home. If students are producing pieces of writing that they are proud of, then the parents are able to see the progress being made in a way that is unique to the…

Even if students are aware of the abilities they have they may not use all or lack the most important one. In high school many of my past English teachers helped me make better use of how to incorporate strategies since there were times I lacked using a method. I was able to then find ways to use openness in my writings which allowed me to have connections to different possibilities and outcomes. There were many times during my writings in high school that had an impact and made me change the way I would view certain situations. Argumentative writings that included two perspectives allowed me to make use of my habit of openness and most times change the way I think.…

For my literary analysis paper on Huckleberry Finn, I had decided to do Huck’s Psychological Changes; a way of tying two classes I love into one paper. I edited my analysis until I thought it was clear, concise, and well-organized causing an excellent grade, as well as the realization that with a little extra work and effort, I could have a well-written paper. This also helped me realize that being organized as a whole could help me be an excellent student because I was able to use organization to help my time management skills. I found having time management skills makes getting homework and studying done at an efficient pace. I believe that having skills such as these now will help me later in life and help me continue to become a successful student because with every new assignment and novel, I feel I learn more about myself as a student and a writer, and I tend to discover new skills that help me in all my classes, especially my Mitchell classes.…

Beyond improving my writing ability, this class achieved its critical thinking development goal as well.
