Habitat for Humanity's Mission to Make Changes World Wide As I think about how thankful I am to live in such a great community and home with a great family it makes me wonder about those who are not as lucky. According to the Habitat website the About us article tells us that “There are nearly 2 billion people around the world who live in slum housing and more than 100 million are homeless”(About Habitat for Humanity). “Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller” (The History of Habitat). Fuller developed the concept of “partnership housing.” The concept centered on those in need of shelter, working side by side with volunteers to build simple houses (The History of Habitat). Habitat for Humanity is a faith based nonprofit housing organization. Millard and Linda grew up the church and wanted the foundation to be watched over by God throughout the building of homes. Moving into the homes that Habitat has built has statistically improved the mental health of the families. Habitat families make more money and use fewer government social programs. Their kids do better in school. Families feel safer,their children are off of the streets and they spend more time together (Habitat for Humanity dramatically improves families' lives, study finds). Even though we gather together to Donating money and or your time to Habitat can be so helpful to others and even yourself. Donating time and money can bring people together to build homes,communities and hope. Destruction of homes by natural forces have been very devastating in the past. Habitat will be there in a heartbeat to help the community quickly get families off of the streets and into a warm home. You can help build and volunteer your time with Habitat to make history.
