Habitat For Humanity Paper

The nonprofit organization that I have chosen for my research project is Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). There are many credible nonprofit organizations but Habitat for Humanity is the only one that I have ever worked for and truly enjoyed my time there. It does not hurt that I believe in their mission, vision and principles. HFHI’s mission is “Seeking to put God’s love into action Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope” (Habitat for Humanity, 2017). HFHI’s vision is “A world where everyone has a decent place to live” (Habitat for Humanity, 2017). HFHI’s principles are: to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ, support sustainable and transformative development, focus on shelter, promote dignity and hope and advocate for affordable housing” (Habitat …show more content…
A biblical scholar and farmer named Clarence Jordan along with Millard and Linda Fuller came up with the concept of partnership housing (new owners plus volunteers would build homes with no interest loans subsequently receiving funds from mortgage payments to build additional homes) (Habitat for Humanity International, 2017). The idea worked quite well and in 1973 the Fuller’s took the idea overseas to Zaire (three years later after launching a successful house building program there they came home and founded HFHI in 1976) (Habitat for Humanity International, 2017). Those of us who are old enough to remember President Jimmy Carter will also remember that he was a huge advocate for HFHI. Currently, Habitat for Humanity is at work in 1,400 communities in the United States as well as in 70 countries worldwide with a current total of 6.8 million people who have received strength, independence and stability through decent, affordable and safe shelter (Habitat for Humanity International,
