A biblical scholar and farmer named Clarence Jordan along with Millard and Linda Fuller came up with the concept of partnership housing (new owners plus volunteers would build homes with no interest loans subsequently receiving funds from mortgage payments to build additional homes) (Habitat for Humanity International, 2017). The idea worked quite well and in 1973 the Fuller’s took the idea overseas to Zaire (three years later after launching a successful house building program there they came home and founded HFHI in 1976) (Habitat for Humanity International, 2017). Those of us who are old enough to remember President Jimmy Carter will also remember that he was a huge advocate for HFHI. Currently, Habitat for Humanity is at work in 1,400 communities in the United States as well as in 70 countries worldwide with a current total of 6.8 million people who have received strength, independence and stability through decent, affordable and safe shelter (Habitat for Humanity International,
