That habit of mind is independence. Independence is an independent learner who takes on the next challenge, learns from mistakes, motivated by feedback, makes effective effort, enjoys practice, sticks to an idea, takes risks, and asks specific questions when needed. An example of my work which lacks independence was the Africa map quiz. I lacked independence when I was coloring the deserts on the front side. I lacked independence because I did not take risks and asked the people next to me what they colored in. Since I asked them what they got, I did not feel confident in my own answer, and one key to an independent learner is taking risks. Another example of my work in which I was not an independent learner in was the Ancient and Medieval China exam. I lacked independence during my reaction after the exam. I was not an independent learner because I was not motivated by the feedback I received after I took the exam. I was not motivated to keep going on with the subject and take on the next challenge. This makes me not an independent learner because being motivated by feedback and taking on the next challenge are key points to being independent. Lastly, another example of my work in which I lacked independence was the identity vocabulary quiz. I was not independent by not feeling confident in my answer about how Hudson meets the criteria of a civilization. By not being confident, I was not taking risks. Also, I changed my answer so many times, I could not stick to an idea. This makes me not an independent learner because, to be an independent learner, you must stick to an idea and take risks, and I did not do that. Therefore, this is why the the habit of mind I most need to improve in is, independence. I am glad that I took the time to see which habit of mind I did not improve over the school year because to improve, you must know your
