Haaron Hitchins: An Ethical Hunter

Decent Essays
hAaron Hitchins is an ethical hunter and doesn't just shoot to shoot. In his narrative, he is on a big bow hunting trip and makes a big sacrifice for a suffering deer.

First, he comes across what looks like a dead deer. He finds that the deer is an old and injured buck. The deer attempted to get up, and Aaron said, seeing it stand gave me hope that it would be OK... I wanted it to recover." From this, one can infer that Mr. Hitchins cared about the fairness and health of his game and did not want to shoot the deer.

The best way to describe Andrew Middleton playing basketball is to compare him to a lion on the hunt. Although a lion isn’t the smallest animal, Andrew is a six foot four freshman, a lion is extremely stealthy and can sneak quietly up on it’s pray, and in a matter of seconds, the hunt is over. Middleton is not a man of many words, but he lets his actions speak loudly on the basketball court. Andrew is a freshman at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. In the first inters-quad scrimmage at Thomas the one play that sticks out in my mind was when Thomas Senior guard and MMBCWA first team all-state player of the year, nonchalantly took a shot only to get it shoved back down his throat by the quite Middleton who acted like it was no big deal, because to him, it probably wasn’t.…

Alant Hunt, makes a point that moral panics are part of wider dynamics of “moral panics” in which some agents act to “problematize the conduct, values or culture of others and seek to act upon them though moralizing discourses, moralizing, practises, and religion. ”(cited in Krinsky, C. 2013, p.134)The contemporary example of moral panic issue surrounding ‘gay-propaganda’ law in Russia was justified by the Russian politician Vitaly Milonov, as the need to protect children from being corrupted and uphold Orthodox Christian moral values as gay people stand as threat to those values. This phrase indicates Bernstein’s opposition to hunting. Hunting can certainly be destructive and exploitive; it has caused unjustified ecological destruction and has driven species to total extinction. I wouldn’t call hunting at large an act of exploitation though. I grew up in the backwoods of Northern Indiana; I have killed and eaten thousands of animals in my lifetime.…
