Finding a program that would help me explore my interests in science and provide me with the knowledge to procure a profession in the medical field was a very rigorous task, however the Health Profession Recruitment and Exposure Program clearly emerged on top. After reading the description available online, I knew that HPREP would not only enhance my interest in the medical field, but also reshape my vision of the science world. I look forward to participating in the small group workshops led by medical students as I believe they will expose me to medical activities early on in my career that will spark a further interest. Also the ability to ask questions and work with the medical students, fellow students, and teachers will enable me to make connections, obtain unique advice and allow me to have a mentor or person I can reach out to and follow his or her footsteps to my own goals.…

Mentorship plays such an important role in all of our lives regardless of vocation and interests. Delving into history we see how many of the renowned innovators, actors, politicians, and business leaders were mentored during some stage of their lives. I can recall the names of a few mentor-mentee relationships I became aware of over time - Plato mentored by Socrates - David Letterman mentored by Peter Lassally - Warren Buffet mentored by Benjamin Graham – Steve Jobs mentored by Robert Friedland - Russell Crowe mentored by Tom Sharpin and Bill Gates mentored by Dr. Ed Roberts. Having participated in mentorship at both ends of the spectrum, I know firsthand about its benefits, which include maturity, focus, diligence, accountability and sustained…

I am a good friend of the Trossman family, but I am also a nursing student in my final year hoping to get a job as an RN in The Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) after I graduate. Over the past ten years I have formed strong relationships with families of children who require constant and complex medical care. Jacob Trossman and Taylor, Cole and Brody Florence are just the few I can name with permission. Prior to nursing school, the parents taught me the skills and knowledge needed to perform each child's needs in order to maintain safety as a priority during our outings. I was able to take them to the park, Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) and even sleepovers at my house without their parents being constantly worried how their children would manage without them nearby.…
