HR 54 Tuition Essay

I am writing to you in reference to the Bill HR 54 Tuition grants; children of officers killed in line of duty who attend University System institutions in the United States and also meet certain requirements. The purpose of this letter is to show my support for this bill and to ask for your continued support on this issue. Giving tuition to the children of officers killed in the line of duty is not only respectable, but also fair to the children who previously could not get tuition for education. Those parents in the line of duty would want their children to have a higher education and it is our responsibility to provide the proper means for them to achieve this goal. I am currently attending college and with the benefit of my scholarships was able to pay less. On the other hand, if I did not receive scholarships, it would be very difficult for me to attend college today. In this era, more and more people die in many harsh and inhumane ways. Some are devastating and some do not even make it to the news when they should. It pains me to see a young child who is attending school and has lost their mother or father in the line of duty. It hurts to imagine them in school thinking about their parent who has sacrificed themselves to protect others. For instance, Terence Avery Green is father of four sons and was shot and killed from an ambush from suspects. Think about the sons of Officer Green and their education impact. Their father has died in the line of duty to protect others, and they should have financial support from tax payers such as citizens in order to let them fulfill their father’s dream.
