I learned a lot about ethics at a young age. I saw my instructor demonstrate that all throughout high school and with the HOSA club. As an instructor she realized that she was in a position to powerfully influence student behavior, and therefore had ethical responsibility. I felt that she respected our autonomy. She did not infringe on a student 's right to make independent decisions. She showed respect for others and their opinions. She allowed students to develop and express opinions or …show more content…
I can continue to accomplish this goal by joining a campus organization related to my field. I would also like join a nation or statewide professional organization sometime within the next year. Participating or attending field related conferences could be beneficial to my overall competency. I have found that you learn a lot more by stepping outside of your comfort zone. We must sometimes stretch our boundaries in order to expand them and knock down those walls that we put up. Counseling is also a humbling process as well. I can’t expect to come and know what to do every time, they will be times where I need to ask for help or look back at different theories to relate. In order to be an effective counselor I have to come to terms with that and be willing to ask for help because it’s ok not to know
