The officer is trying to keep her from running into the active crime scene after she crosses the police tape to get to her deceased brother. Stop action, depth of field, honest emotion, and peak action are a few of the techniques the photographer used. This picture could stand alone, the image is strong enough without the rest of the photos. This picture does need a caption with it though. If it didn 't have a caption the viewer probably could guess close to what it depicts, but the image would need clarification. The emotion from this picture came from this woman’s determination to get to her brother. That is what tied the picture

On Saturday, 12/30/2017, at approximately 1024 hours I was dispatched as a cover unit for Officer Hyink, on the report of a husband who pushed their wife. I arrived on scene at approximately 1027 hours and saw the husband later identified as Confidential Victim #1, outside the garage and the wife, identified as Suspect Prywes, standing inside the garage. I approached Prywes and asked her what happened. She told me she was pushed and hit the concrete hard on her back. I asked her if she would like to have paramedics come and take a look at her and she started to become extremely upset and began insisting that no medics be called.…

Though the anger and pain of this boy is clearly depicted, there is still hope in him. In Haunting Eyes, there is a boy with a look that is chilling enough to make you think of the things he has gone through, and everything that he witnessed. Looking at this photo makes my heart ache for this boy and all the others that were with him who may or may not have made it. It makes me think of all the things that went through his head and how the terrible time of the Holocaust would forever affect him. Above all, it makes me think of how much hope he had left.…

The idea of a narrative is to tell a story, the events occurring on the day of September 11, 2001 will provide an opportunity to relay my feelings, moving beyond the initial pure and basic anger at those responsible for such a desperate act. The image shows two emergency responders in the cloud of debris left by the collapse of the Trade Centers and what drew me to this picture is what they must have been talking about. The questions and issues I initially considered included: the loss of life; the tremendous devastation; and are there more survivors, where these possibilities could only be confirmed by talking to the individuals in the picture. Instead, I decided that the picture will be used as a metaphor to relay my awareness of the incident,…

John Filo’s photo also gained sentimental recognition from the public: “...It ran on the front page of almost every newspaper in the United States and many throughout the world. And the photo confirmed the convictions of Americans on both the left and the right ("There's No Escape from," 2000). The emotional response from a person looking at the photo can be explained by the outrageous cry of the woman kneeling over the dead body. The position of her arms is as if she is asking why did you kill this innocent man? While the identity of the man is unknown in the photo, it sparks the assumptions that it could have been her best friend or perhaps her significant other which contributes to the public feeling even more sympathetic and curiosity.…

John Lewis’s trilogy of graphic novels, March, serves as a rich account of the Civil Rights Movement. Besides being very informative regarding the history of the movement, the comic serves to reconstruct interpretations of protest and freedom. This excerpt gathered from Congressman John Lewis’ graphic trilogy depicts the violent confrontation which took place in Selma, Alabama in March of 1965. Regarded as “Bloody Sunday,” the march for voting rights was led by Lewis and other young civil rights leaders and involved a historic, and bloody, confrontation by the police. This excerpt includes the iconic image of Lewis and the group crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge only to meet the waiting resistance.…

Memories and moments can be remembered deep within our mind and shared by word, but these days people choose to remember these things by taking pictures and viewing photos with others. Technology these days makes that so simple. Take out a phone, snap a picture, and post it on a social media website or share it with all your friends via text. Travel back roughly 155 years ago and taking snapshots weren’t even close to that easy. Racism, stereotypes, and prejudices- these have all been a controversial topic for a long time, influencing the way that we view different people from different races. A black man today could be walking down the street and viewed as hostile and a ticking time bomb that could go off at any minute. This specific piece is referring to the Eric Garner incident and how he was choked to death by a police officer. Garner had been flailing his arms around in a “menacing” way, causing one of the police officers to put him in a choke hold which later resulted in his death.…

Aural As previously mentioned, Corner states that the aural category of documentary aesthetics is strongly linked to images and because of this could be considered a secondary aesthetic. While I agree that documentary television was considered less aesthetically inclined during the early 2000s, I’d argue that recent television documentaries, like O.J.: Made in America, have reversed what Corner is suggesting. Edelman often allows the aural contents of the narrative to take the lead in parts of the documentary to produce an effective understanding of character. During Part One of the series Simpson’s natural characteristics of charm and self-preservation is under review.…
