HLTA Should Be Involved In Research

Improved Essays

However, although the teacher owns that responsibility, it is also advised that the HLTA should be involved with planning, scheduling and the preparation of lessons. This favours both the teacher and HLTA as they can be on the same level of judgement and understanding when it comes to evaluating lessons and assignments of the students, furthermore, the HLTA can continue to further assist in adapting the lesson plans and make changes when necessary.
In terms of planning and preparation, it is what makes the lessons structured and organised,

It is also important to take into account planning for individuals, not all children develop and grow at the same pace, some are known as gifted and talented and need those extra chances and opportunities to enhance their learning capabilities, on the other hand, some need that extra support, therefore plans should reflect this.
Setting up the resources is mainly what the HLTA would take over, which is anything that is needed for the lesson, this could be gathering reading material, getting the required books together, printing out documents etc.
One of the last parts of the plan would be to include assessment and recording, this involves knowing if the learning outcomes have been met and understood, this could be based on the tasks in the lessons, question and answer session and homework.
Furthermore, both teachers and HLTA should keep in mind risk assessment throughout the entire lesson, a HLTA should be able to reflect and conclude the lesson, this is regardless of supporting the teacher of taking over the class. Feedback is required because it shows what went about a lesson and what could be improved for next

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

The outcome of this discussion would be to introduce an IEP (Individual Education Plan, also called an ILP ‘Individual Learning Plan’ in other educational establishments) for that child, which will show the specific targets that are to be concentrated on for the immediate future. No more than three targets will be addressed at any one time. A copy of the IEP will be with the person supporting that child so that any notes for feedback can be added during the lessons through group work and/or individual time. One-to-one sessions may also be introduced where the main focus will be the targets set by the teachers. It is important to mention that these targets must be SMART (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound) because once the child has achieved the targets set out for them, their self-esteem and self-motivation will grow, which will in turn have the knock on effect of…

In evaluation, to the subjects I have discussed, there is a clear connection between the two subjects of the cycle and support staff within a school. The element of planning within the cycle is important, so that it is clear that learning should be taking place, however the planning only partly relates to the way the lesson will be delivered, as the same lesson plan could be interpreted differently by other staff (Fautley, Savage, 2013). The same learning objectives, may be met however in different method, therefore as a teacher if they want a certain method to be taught the planning must be detailed. On professional practice, I would also discuss the lesson to my support staff, as there is a clear understanding. As part of the cycle, it is…

Thirdly, my experience in planning allowed me to pinpoint areas where I could assess pupil learning. I also used assessments to structure a science medium term plan. Therefore the use of assessments that promote progression is another pedagogy principle I regard to be effective. When deciding the objectives children are to achieve, it is also useful to think about the forms of evidence a teacher can employ to view expectations and progression. Assessment has two main forms; summative and formative.…
