HSP can affect anyone, it’s most common in children aged 2-11, and boys are affected twice as often as girls. A seasonal variation with a peak incidence in spring has been noted.

Obtain a urinalysis on all patients to detect hematuria. When hematuria is present, obtain renal function tests. Although microscopic hematuria is relatively common in patients with HSP, proteinuria represents more extensive renal involvement and requires closer monitoring and outpatient follow-up. Finally, stool guaiac may be positive in up to 49% of cases of HSP, although, in the absence of symptoms suggestive of intussusception, does not require further evaluation. Radiographic imaging is not routinely indicated unless intussusception or volvulus is suspected. People with henoch-Schonlein Purpura usually presents abnormal levels of a particular type of antibody, Immunoglobulin A(IgA) found in blood, tears, saliva, etc.) in the walls of involved blood vessels
DIAGNOSIS
The diagnosis of IgA vasculitis (Henoch-Schönlein) is based on clinical signs and symptoms. Skin biopsy specimen can be useful in confirming leukocytoclastic vasculitis with IgA and C3 deposition by immunofluorescence. Renal biopsy is rarely needed for diagnosis but may provide prognostic information in some patients. (Harrison’s, Principles of Internal Medicine)
COMPLICATIONS
Most of the cases the illness goes away within a month with not complications, some of them can experience it a second time but no as bad as it was the first
