H Lonnie Character Analysis

Lonnie is your typical man living an average life. He has a wife and child, he wakes up at 6:15 every morning to attend work, and socializes with friends and families on the weekend. Even though this sounds like your typical man, who is living a satisfying and fulfilling life, it is not. Lonnie is a very unhappy and depressed man trying to escape the reality of everyday life. Lonnie works at Iron House Productions, where he spends his days logging video footage. His boss Radko had promised to promote him to a job where he would actually be editing videos, but that never occurred. As a result Lonnie continually dreads going to work and states “on this particular morning, as on too many mornings in the past, I felt I just couldn’t face the editing bay, the computer screen, the eternal idiocy of the dialogue repeated over and over through take after take, frame after frame” (Boyle, T.C). Lonnie’s relationship with his coworkers is mediocre at best. He didn’t want to associate with them, didn’t consider any of them to be his friends, and typically tried to avoid tem in his daily work interactions. His marriage is unsatisfying and lifeless. He is no longer attracted to his wife as he once was and claims that every morning he sees her siting with the baby completely naked except for her favorite t-shirt that she has on. This is something that he used to find sexy, but now he claims that he’s gotten used to seeing her like that and no longer finds it sexy and appealing. Lonnie and Clover constantly bicker. For example in the story they argue about whether his wife should change her name or not, who should change the baby’s diaper, and what they should eat for dinner. They spend a very small amount of quality time with each other, since both Lonnie and Clover work during the days and Clover takes law classes at night. They do not have a close
