Gym Persuasive Speech

Okay, so you've made up your mind about getting some serious workout and build some muscle. The next logical step would be to choose a gym.

It may not be obvious to you now but choosing the right gym is actually very important.

In a nutshell, you need to find a gym that will help keep you motivated and focused on your goals. You need to find a gym that you will feel comfortable going to on a regular basis. Remember, you won't be going to the gym only once, twice, or a couple of weeks. Once you get in (into weight training that is) and if you are really determined to achieve your goals, you're going to be in it for a really long time.

Have you been in a job/office that you didn't enjoy/like? Have you been at a restaurant with an unfriendly

1. Location

Who wants to drive long distances just to have a workout? I know I don't. My schedule's tight enough, thank you. Seriously though, would you like your travel time to take longer than the time you spend working out? So, look for a gym that's either near your place of work or home or one that's located in a place where you pass through every time you go home from work.

2. Cost of Membership

Gym memberships vary in costs, so it's a good idea to do some comparison shopping first. You may also want to consider the terms of membership, particularly with regards to the length of membership. Some gyms tie you in for years and this is not good if you are not yet completely sure if you've really found the one that's right for you.

3. Membership demographic

Well, this one actually depends on your preference. And women are probably more concerned about this than men. Some women tend to prefer going to an all-ladies gym as it increases their comfort factor. Others prefer going to a mixed gym as it gives them opportunity to socialize with the opposite sex (and maybe even find a date).

How about physiotherapy? Massage therapy? Nutritional counseling? Fitness testing? Do they charge extra for these? Do they offer special discounts for these? The bottom line here is getting the most of what you're going to be paying for.

5. Operating Hours

Make sure that the gym you choose is open at your preferred time. You definitely wouldn't want your workout schedule to be in conflict with your school or work schedule.

6. Personal Training Services

Having some good, qualified trainers around will help you greatly in realizing your goals. There's nothing better than having a knowledgeable person guide and push you along. A word of caution though, you may also want to inquire about the certifications of the trainers as many gyms don't have a strict hiring policy.

7. Cleanliness

Okay, this should probably be your number one priority. You wouldn't want to be working out on dirty equipment do you? And neither would you like to go into a grimy and smelly bathroom/change room. So you better check those out.

When I first started Crossfit, everything seemed foreign. Going to the gym left me feeling as if I had entered an entirely different dominion--one in which men and women became beasts, knowing only how grunt loudly while lifting heavy weights at incredible speeds. I started off frightened by the prospect of being isolated in such an unfamiliar setting, but as time progressed, my sense of detachment slowly dissipated. Outgoing as I am, I sought out ways to strike conversation with the “locals.” The first topic I found a mutual interest in was Star Wars; who knew such jock-like people could be such geeks like me?…

Over the past week, I have gone to all three gyms multiple times and the first thing I observed that all three gyms have primarily two age groups, the first being highschoolers, teenagers, and overall younger people. Some just starting out with weight lifting and also many experienced teenage body builders. The next group was older people ages 60 and up. Younger weight lifters usually stuck to using free weights and older people tended to use only cable and isolation machines, as well as machines for cardio. The…

Although this may be a standard feature to most any gym, ASU goes far beyond a mere standard with the accommodations they provide their students who want to lift and stay in shape. When you enter the gym on the first level you immediately see a variety of racked weights and benches to use, along with other machines that if open, are available to all students. As you continue to walk down the first level of the facility you will see another gym. This was part of the extension Arizona State provided the SDFC in 2013 (Tempe Facilities).
