When determining what physical activities that a particular gender is going to partake in at the gym, it is important to first have an understanding of the motivating factors that drove them to conclude on that particular exercise routine. Although everyone has their own personal motives to go to the gym, gender motivations play a role when participating in particular physical activity. I chose an article entitled “Motives for adult participation in physical activity: type of activity, age, and gender” by Keyvan Molanorouzi, Selina Khoo and Tony Morris to help support the different motivating factors. This particular research uses quantitative research and cross descriptive research design. This article elaborates on the first article and digs deeper in personal appearances and overall achievements at the gym. This research involved questionnaires of 198 participants, 114 females and 84 males (Carroll, Lanza, 2010). It focused on self-objectification and the views of participants. This particular research states that the type of activity that one uses can affect their motive (Carroll, Lanza, 2006). Therefore, the type of activity can affect their overall goals and achievements, such as a good appearance, body shape, health, enjoyment and overall fitness. The method of research consisted of a group of 198 participants randomly selected using a multi cluster sampling method (Carroll, Lanza, 2006). Then permission was received and then they surveyed the group in face-to-face interviews. They then took the data and concluded that men enjoy working out, and women are more influenced by others, such as society workout. The research outlines the influence of others for females to stay fit, and men to have strength. It also outlines the overall different purpose amongst the two to workouts.
