Gwen: A Hero's Lesson

While reading the book I am a spectator most of the time and imagine everything taking place in a movie, but sometimes I am a background character. This would be equal to a Stan Lee cameo in a Marvel movie. For example, when the main character Gwen is choosing if she will be an Atlantean cadet or a civilian, I would be next in line and picking as she walks off.

Giving advice to Gwen would be a hard thing to do because she already lives her life thinking that if something doesn’t go her way, she can always do something to change it. No matter how unusual or impossible the circumstances are she will always have hope to finish what she started. One thing that I might say to her would be to always trust her instinct. This is because sometimes

She is always thinking of loop holes and asking important questions while maintaining good friendships with the teachers and kids around her. My only criticism about her is that she has a hard time accepting reality. For example, Gwen's goal throughout the book is to train hard enough on this Atlantic ship in order to compete in the Atlantis Games. Winning this would give her everything she could dream such as rescuing her family from Earth which is going to soon be destroyed by an asteroid. When she gets denied to do this at the end of the book by the Atlantean Prince she still refuses his orders and continues thinking of ways that she can still get into the games and save her …show more content…
Near the end of the book Gwen asks her Commanding Pilot Aeson Kassiopi, which is also the prince of Atlantis, why they couldn’t just ram a few ships at the asteroid and save Earth. He replies saying that it wouldn’t work because they would just send another one. After that he says they will talk more on the situation later but they never end up doing that. This confused me because the book never elaborated on the fact that something is launching extinction level asteroids at other planets. I was also confused as to why the Atlanteans don’t just attack whoever is launching them to Earth for however long it takes to bring everyone to

Many books have been made into movies, and people tend to notice that the movies do not highlight certain details that the books do. In A Separate Peace, there were many differences between the book in the movie, like Gene’s visit to Devon, the character relationships, and the different perspective of the movie. Gene’s visit to Devon 15 years later is the first scene of the book. The movie started at the start of his summer session. She was strong and loyal to her friend and her family (despite what had happened to her while she was with her mother). I think one of the things I loved the most about her was how realistic her grief was. Sure, there was hate towards her mother for doing what she did – but it never took over and she still felt grief. She reminded me of a trapped dog, sweet and cuddly to those who showed her kindness but a rabid animal to those with opposite intentions. She does some pretty silly things though, dumb and completely idiotic things, but it didn’t take away from her character as a whole.…

Unsurprisingly, Joe went against his doctor and Caitlin’s advices by staying by Barry’s side and not take the rest his body wanted. The event of earlier terrified him a lot more than Joe was willing to admit. Both Iris and Joe had been sitting on the hero’s bedside for hours, in a defining silence, observing any changes on the young man’s face. They agreed with Caitlin that it was probably best if there was as little people as possible in the room, people he knew for a long time, to make sure he would stay calm the next time he would awaken. They didn’t have to wait too long for Barry to show signs of waking up.…

Informative Essay Elizabeth Svoboda, the author of “What Makes a Hero” created a book that will help individuals with identifying and understanding what a hero is with many perspectives and experiences. Throughout the book, Svoboda clarified what a hero was within each chapter and shown how people find out what they can do to help others or in other words be a hero. The book illustrated rhetorical appeals within Chapter five, which is titled “suffering and Heroism”; Svoboda put to use pathos, ethos and logos because she described the story of Jodee Blanco of how her emotions and feelings from being abused and not socially accepted throughout high school to becoming socially accepted and a hero as an adult. People can connect with pathos appeal…
