GUY MONTAG: I am doing well, thank you for asking.
INTERVIEWER: Yes, alright let’s get started. Give me a brief description of what your life was like before the chaos. How did you feel about work?
GUY MONTAG: I did enjoy work at one point. I had been a fireman for “ten years” (Bradbury 8) and had come accustomed to the hard work and the prestigious lifestyle. The only annoying tidbit I had to deal with was the kerosene. “My wife always complains” (Bradbury 6), but she couldn’t understand that “you never wash it off completely” (Bradbury 6).

Now we’re at the heart of the interview. Just how much did your life change after you accepted the fact that you were complacent and unhappy?
GUY MONTAG: I was lost and confused on what to do with my life. I began to see all of the wrongful things I have done at work and loathed going. I figured the books were going to be able to fill the empty feeling and give me the knowledge I had been craving, so I began frantically reading. I wanted to find a way to end the meaningless conversations.
INTERVIEWER: This is when Faber comes into the picture, correct?
GUY MONTAG: Yes. I meet up with Faber and we come up with a brilliant plan, and you know how the story ends from here.
INTERVIEWER: I gather from all of this that Clarisse McClellan is the reason your life became flipped upside down. Do you regret meeting her, or changing your ways?
GUY MONTAG: Not at all. She opened my eyes to see how better our world could be. She made me come to terms with what I had been afraid to admit to myself. Without Clarisse, I would have never met Faber, and I would have been stuck in the city that is now obliterated to pieces and not have the opportunity to share my story with you
