Gothic genre is very dark. Traditional Gothic writing contains elements of horror, death, and at times a dark romance. Guy de Maupassant was a 19th century gothic French author. Maupassant wrote about life in France, and is famous for 300 short stories and six novels. He died at the age of 43, fighting physical and mental health problems. (Biography.com) Maupassant’s short story The White Wolf, a white wolf terrorizes a town and two brothers venture out a journey to kill the beast. This short story takes on many elements of the gothic genre, such as; gore, suspense, and a development of characteristics through isolation.
