We try to ignore these type qualities in us and close friends. It’s when we analyze these type characters who make us think about how we act and what we say to other people. Mathilde is continuously dreaming of the riches she desires and this drives her to gain all material items she can to bring her closer to her picture she has formed for her life. Pride is also driven by this because she does not want to appear poor. She wants be her best and sometimes this comes at a cost to others, so she can be selfish while she is striving for dream life. When she craves the things she wants she rarely considered how it might affect her husband but always did what she felt would suit her best. Mathilde attempts to satisfy her desire for wealth with her materialistic, prideful, and self-centered acts and ended up hurting life more than helping herself
