So why are men using an inoffensive term to offend each other? The reason is that the word gay has only gained a new negative meaning and is not losing its original meaning. The same men who claim that gay is not insulting anybody are using it to insult each other. Nothing is being fixed, the issue is just being ignored. Think about it this way. Let’s say your name now means the same as gay. People all around you use it to insult each other and to describe things negatively. They’re just saying that people get better at doing things with practice. In the study they talk about how videogames are a perfect medium to perform the repeated practice people need. They then go on and talk about the effects of repeating violent actions in videogames. The constant display of shooting guns, threats, stabbing people, destroying vehicles, and causing mayhem in general desensitizes the gamer and allows them to recreate these actions easily. In GTA V the gamer has the ability to infiltrate a military base and steal airplanes and tanks which he can then use to destroy cars and kill anyone in sight. Also threats that the protagonists say add to the desensitization of gamers. In the game, Trevor and other characters say things like, “"Bring me my coffee or I'm gonna cut your arm off!” or “The cops are here, sucks for them” (Leack). The second comment implies the gamer is going to kill all the cops that come to
