The right of a woman is the right to choose. To take that choice away is to deny her rights. As such, an individual can choose whether or not to have an abortion, but that choice must be available. It is of the utmost importance, for economical, safety, and health reasons that a woman may be faced with.
Having an abortion might be safer for the woman than carrying the pregnancy to term. A first-trimester abortion is one of the safest medical procedures and carries minimal risk and virtually no long term risk. Less than 0.05% of these procedures create major complications that might need hospital care. The Guttmacher Institute has a list of facts on this issue, one of them explains: “two thirds of abortions occur at 8 weeks of pregnancy or earlier”, but the key to an early abortion, even one less than 8 weeks, is easily accessible care and facilities. The harder it is to get to a facility, the longer a woman has to wait for the same care.
A woman who is denied an abortion she wants is more likely to stay in a relationship with an abusive partner than women who got abortions.
