In the past year, there have been a total of twenty three shootings on college campuses (Sanburn). School shootings have been at an all time high in the past years. Due to this, colleges are questioning how they can further protect their students. Gun advocates believe that if a student had the right to carry a gun, there would be far less shootings. Those who argue that students should carry a gun, also state that it would cause for a safer environment and protecting oneself. On the other hand, many argue that allowing more guns on campuses would cause more gun violence to occur. While many argue that guns should not be allowed on college campus, guns can help students feel safe and prevent any future school shootings. Despite those that are for guns on campuses, there are still people who believe a college campus is no place for them. One of the main arguments of the opposing view is that guns could do more harm than good. Teachers would be worried to lead a class knowing that a student might be carrying a gun, and student have also stated that they believe a gun would be little to no use during an actual school shooting (Gass).. Texas is one of the few states that has passed a law allowing students the right to carry a concealed weapon on college campus. Due to this, Daniel Hamermesh, a professor at The University of Texas at Austin has recently stated that he will be quitting his job next fall because he feels the risk of being shot by a student is too high (Gass).…
