According to journalist Aamer Madhani, the crime statistics released by the Chicago Police Department on April 2, 2015 recorded 355 shootings from January to April (Madhani). Whit this statistics in mind, Chicagoans and community leaders should work together to try to prevent future fatalities and lower the death rates. In addition, senseless deaths occur throughout the year as result of gun violence. Violence is out control, people; particularly teenagers, are killing other teens because the situation gets out of control. Teens do not know how to properly handle conflict nor confrontation due to their lack of rational which can become a deadly situation when a solution is not found. Autry, character from the book Gang Leader for a Day, explains the senseless reasons why teenagers kill. He said, ““They kill, sometimes for the most stupid reasons,” You spoke to my girlfriend…’’you walked down the sidewalk in my territory…’’you looked at me funny---That’s it, I ‘ll kill you!”” (pg. 97) Unfortunately, sometimes innocent people get caught in the middle of a confrontation, which can lead to an injury or even a fatality.
