What balance is there between the second amendment rights and public safety? Should there be more gun restrictions on where they can be carried? Are college students safer if they are allowed to carry guns on campus? This issue of whether guns should be allowed on college campuses has been an ongoing national debate. In the essay “Do We Really Need More Guns on Campus” from the book Patterns, David Skorton and Glenn Altschuler discuss how the campus community is considerably safer if there's a ban on guns on campus. How else is balancing second-amendment rights with public safety possible? Public safety is an important issue that needs to be worked on, especially with the safety of college students. Colleges and Universities are only safe if they encourage gun-free policies.

They go to college to expand the mind and find a high-paying job after they graduate. Throughout college they often face emotional stress and bad decision making. For example, I agree with writer Kristina Torre’s statement in the article Gun Legislation: Debate Over Gun Proposals Rages Across State: Two Dozen Bills being Considered at Capitol, college student Lauren Gaia mentions that although college students are adults, they are also very emotional, overloaded with work, and exhausted (Torres). Some college students are substance abusers, they party on the weekends and face workload of homework on the weekdays, leading them into an emotional state of stress. If they were allowed to carry a gun during their emotional state, this may lead to deadly disasters. I agree that living in an environment like this and allowing students to carry
