Sometimes it gets easier for criminals to murder an unarmed victim. Imagine that a woman has been murdered, and she does not have a gun to protect herself. She called the police, but the police cannot always be on time. What could she do to protect herself? Is she going to be alive by the time the police arrives? So we need the concealed handguns for protection. In our country, all fifty states have permitted carrying a concealed handgun in public (McCarthy). One side feels that having a concealed handgun would push the criminals away from attacking. It is less likely for adults to misuse their firearms in public. Also, concealed handguns protect people who cannot always rely on police to protect them. The opposing side thinks …show more content…
Logically, whenever the police get called to stop a crime, they never can arrive at the right time to save the victim from the danger of having any injuries. “ The average police response time to an emergency call is 11 minutes, with some responses taking much longer. In Detroit the average response time is 58 minutes” (Bialik). When police cannot arrive at the crime time to save the victim, the victim would be dead and the police would not be able to do anything but arrest the criminal for murdering them. The only fastest way for protection is to have the concealed handgun prepared to shoot against the criminal instead of wasting time and dial the police for an unguaranteed protection. In contrast to this view, the opposition believes that the duty of police is to protect us and to save our lives from criminals. Public safety should be left for the police because their duty is to save citizens’ lives and protect them from criminals. Also, the police officers should be trained to be able to save lives, and not let other citizens who have a little experience to use a gun and defend themselves. “ As police officers, we 're required to have training before we get our weapons... If we have to be trained, it would only make sense that a person in public would want to be trained, as well”(Clark). In other words, whether it is a police officer or a citizen, everyone can be trained well with a permit to legally be able to carry a handgun. Still, citizens are able to be trained well before carrying a gun, not only police officers because both are a human being, and they both have the ability to be trained well to carry a gun. Also, if people will rely on police to protect them from being killed, unfortunately there is no guarantee for them to be completely secured and protected because no one knows if police will be able to arrive on time to prevent the
