Step one:
If you open a paper you’ll probably see it. If you listen to the radio or your local news you’ll probably hear/see it. Someone was murdered, caught in the crossfire, school shootings, or police shooting innocent bystanders. Guns are almost always in the news which leads to lots of questions. Are guns safe? Should we outlaw guns or have stiffer laws to control them? Who is to blame? Police, gun owners, criminals, or the government? I think the ultimate question is should Americans be allowed to have guns? I believe so.

There are those who don’t agree with these ideas. They see the violence and want either stiffer gun laws or no guns at all.
For example: the Coalition Against Gun Violence (CAGV) is a Santa Barbara organization that was inspired by Los Angeles Women Against Gun Violence. Their goals state “to create a safer community by combating gun violence through educational activities and to advocate for effective local, state and national programs, policies, and legislation.” One of their agendas includes remedies to stop the glorifying of guns in T.V., movies and video games.
According to some statistics, “46,313 Americans were murdered with firearms during the time period of 2007 to 2011.” That is roughly 25 murders a day.
There are also those that say that the Second Amendment doesn’t cover everyday people but the exact wording is for militias to be armed in case of an uprising much like during the American Revolution.

In the end, I think that we can all agree that there is a problem. Guns and violence seem to go hand in hand but Americans do currently, under today’s interpretation of the Second Amendment, have the right to own hand guns and rifles.
