Every human being will encounter some sort of conflict in their life but knowing how to deal with the situation is important. History even shows how nations get into conflicts and only resolve it by violence so maybe that is why average American citizens think if they kill someone all their problems will go away. Usually young people age 35 and under typically have difficulty handling conflicts. The majority of mass shootings are performed by individuals in their teens into twenties (Science of US). Dylan Ruth killed nine people who were attending a prayer meeting is 21 years old (Heavy.com). James Holmes is a 24-year old male who killed 24 people in a movie theatre in 2012(Denver Post). Adam Lanza fatally shot and killed 20 children, 6 adults, and also his mother; Adam is 20 years old (The New Yorker). Surely you understand the point. The majority of mass shootings are due to bullying, mental illness, lack of feeling accepted by society, and many more reasons (Washington Post). In the book Rampage: The Social Roots of School Shootings, Katherine Newman discusses the reasons for most school shootings. She emphasizes the fact that the shooters are not loners but “Their daily experience is not one of being alone, but of being enmeshed in social friction. They experience rejection all the time, but that doesn’t stop them from trying to join groups. They just fail, all the time”. Obviously we need to implement a firmer education on conflict resolution.
