Guns Kill People: A Narrative Analysis

Guns are not a weapon, they are a tool. Many people around the world believe in the saying that “Guns kill people” for the simple fact that when a human pulls the trigger on the gun it can kill someone but if you think about what was just said “people kill people.” Guns are a tool that help everyone feel safe and at ease. In the stories, “ Second Inaugural Address” by Abraham Lincoln, “ What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” by Frederick Douglass, and “Runagate Runagate” by Robert Hayden each author shows or tells us a story about a “freedom” that is not really there. By reading these stories you get the emotional side of what they have been through or what has been going on for some time now. Even though guns kill people, guns can give …show more content…
Guns can be used for many other reasons than just self-defense or home security, guns can be used for enjoyment. There are many sports that are gun related. Guns are also known for being a collectors item. Some sports that are used with guns are hunting and your basic competitive shooting sports that test your accuracy and speed. Many people would say that shooting a gun is not a sport but shooting a gun is just as hard as any other sport. Shooting a gun can take hand eye coordination, accuracy, and concentration. This type of sport can help children and even adults learn the correct way to shoot a firearm, the correct way to handle a firearm, and the correct place to keep a firearm. Shooting sports are a great way to get the family together and it is something you can do with your family forever. Families can have friendly competitions or families can go hunting together. Parents love to spend time with their kids and going out and hunting or shooting firearms are a great way to spend quality time at your own home or at a more peace place, like a shooting range. In the speech given by Abraham Lincoln he says, “ to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves, and with all nations” (Lincoln 281). Even though Lincoln is talking about binding the nations together as one, he is still talking about bringing people …show more content…
Many people may claim guns as a weapon but the person that is using the gun makes their own decision on what they do with it. We must trust that people will do the right thing with a gun. Some would say that a bunch people do not make the right decision when using a gun which is why we should ban guns. But why should we punish the whole nation for a select few that make bad decisions? The nation should have something that makes them feel safer in their own home, something that helps them feel safer when danger comes about, and something that the nation can have fun using; a gun is a great way for many to feel safe anywhere and for many people to enjoy doing a sport, like hunting. If there is one thing out of this entire article that needs to be understood it is that guns do not kill people, people kill
