In today’s society, it is very easy to get access to guns. In California, obtaining a gun license is very easy: any twenty one years old and up legal resident can apply for a gun license. Banning the use of assault weapons will increase the crime rates because people will have less ability to self-defense. If assault weapons are being banned, people cannot use guns as an effective weapon to protect themselves; as a result, it might put even more people in danger. Furthermore, most of the time police officers do not arrive at the crime scene until the crime has been committed. Therefore, banning the use of assault weapons is not an effective way for citizens to protect themselves.
Additionally, if assault weapons are being banned, it will be harder for the government to track down the offenders. With the current U.S gun control policy, if an individual with a gun license wants to buy a gun from a legal vendor, they will have to register the guns and bullets. Therefore, the government will have a control of who and what kind of people own the guns. As a result, if gun is completely banned, people will then start buying guns from the black market. When people buy guns from the legal vendors, they will be taxed. Eventually, those taxes will help our economy and the numbers of people buying guns are not a small number. In contrast, if assault weapons are completely banned, the government will make less money, and the gangsters will start selling and buying illegal guns. Consequently, the country’s economy will go down, and the gangsters’ illegal assault weapon business will go up rapidly.
Assault weapons should not be ban because it is not an effective policy. Assault weapons do not kill people themselves, it’s the people who kill people.
