Knowing the Signs
Gun violence has become a major concern. A well know school shooting occurred in Sandy Hook killing over 20 people. In this video Evan, an organization called Sandy Hook Promise inform you to know the signs and look for the signs of gun violence. The video is very effective in its message and how it is given. The use of emotional appeal, or pathos, is a large part of this video.
Evan, a YouTube video made by Sandy Hook Promise, a nonprofit organization, was published on December 2, 2016. The video begins in a school with a very joyful, upbeat song playing called “Johnny Met June” by Shelby Lynne. The video then goes to a boy, Evan, writing “I AM BORED” in very distinct handwriting on a table in the library. When he returns to the library the next day there is someone that responded to him on the table in a very pretty cursive handwriting saying, “Hi bored, nice to meet you.” (Sandy Hook Promise, 2016).
They begin to have a conversation back and forth and the guy becomes curious of who the girl is he is writing to. Day after day looking for the girl that was writing back to him. By informing people such as students and teachers about gun violence, it could help us in preventing any more shootings from occurring. The intended audience for this video would be students or teachers or even parents to inform their children about this serious topic. I can tell this is the intended audience because it is taking place in a school, as well as referencing to the Sandy Hook school shooting.
