In 1776, the men who founded America penned ten basic rights they believed belonged to all citizens of the United States. The second amendment is, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Two-hundred and fifty years later, the government wants to defy the Constitution, the very thing our country was founded on. They believe limiting and controlling guns will end most violence and crime in the U.S.. This is not the case, however. In areas where guns are not permitted, crime rate is actually higher. While taking away guns would start to solve this problem, the FBI and the National Instant Background Check System (or the NICS) have already attempted to solve this problem. The NICS is a system that does a mandatory background check on anyone attempting to buy a gun. Launched by the FBI on November 30, 1998, NICS is used by the Federal Firearms Licensees, or the FFL. Most gun control advocates would argue that there is no need for a semi-automatic weapon in everyday life. In everyday life, there is probably not a need for a gun that fires as fast as the trigger is pulled. People that use them, though, use them for food, fun, and self-protection. On June 29, 2010, a 12-year-old girl and her 15-year-old brother were home alone in Houston, Texas when two burglars tried to break into their house. The burglars tried unsuccessfully to break down the front and back doors to the house and proceeded to knock out a window. All the while, the 15-year-old (in self defense of himself and his younger sister) grabbed his father’s AR-15 and shot at one of the burglars. He succeeded in scaring them away and no one was even hurt (AR-15).
Of course, there is the old saying; “Guns don’t kill people… People kill people”. And this is true in most cases. A criminal could just as well stab someone as use a gun on them when mugging, burglarizing, or even just causing terror. Most of the time, the thing that kills someone is the intent to kill, and that just happens to take form of a gun and
