For example, groups like the National Rifle Association, or NRA believe that the threat of guns in homes are exaggerated. The executive vice president of NRA, Wayne Lapierre found out that “ The number of toddlers who die from gun accidents is far less than 500 children who die in the swimming pools each year” (LaPierre 27). While these statistics might be, the author ultimately forgets to address that the number of children who accidentally get shot is still a lot. The author does not state the number of people who are accidently shot by children. Two years ago, a boy named William Anderson was playing in the living room all by himself. It was three days after Christmas, so as any child would do, he was playing with his toys. However, he got hold of his father’s gun and the next thing he knew, he was on the ground, dead (Edge; Ingraham “At least 265 people were accidentally shot by kids this year”). The statistics might show that not many children die from gun accident, but if an accident can be prevented, it should be. In this accident, if the father had just taken the few minutes to lock up his gun, he would have saved his child's life and would have been free of the pain he and his family had suffered. For example, the gun law that requires a license and background protects the people and help the police at the same time. Additionally, learning self defense helps people fight against criminals and protect them and their loved ones. Finally, proper maintenance of a gun is vital because it keeps the gun from children and proper in the time of necessity. On the other hand, there are people who believe that the laws restricting laws are useless and unreasonable but, their ignorance is seen as they completely disregard the fact that these laws are set to protect the people. However, achieving these goals are easier said than done. It is something that has to occur amongst everyone: gun owners should properly lock their guns; concerned citizens— need not be gun owners— should educate themselves on the dangers of guns ; and most importantly, people should support this cause by protesting for gun laws and sending letters to it’s congress
